Season 3, Episode 20 Hot Water

The Brew, late at night

• Closing time, the liars are all discussing Jason, NAT, and Cece over coffee. The photo is gone (sigh). Aria tells them to use their phones next time. They contemplate whether Cece is the one in the red coat (I don’t know about this. Cece has a larger frame that than person). Someone is watching them.
• Spencer gets a text from Wren who wants to talk. Spencer tells the liars that she had a moment with Mona. They ask if that moment might have caused the elevator incident. Spencer says no, being that they were out of town. (I’m pretty sure she’s thinking it’s Toby.)
• Knock, knock. Wilden. Starts threatening the girls, especially Hanna. Hanna mentions the boat ride. They manage to shut him up but you can tell that he is up to something.

Montgomery

• Aria gets home and sees Wesley’s stuff gone, sheets neatly folded, and the borrowed book on top.

Out and About (next day, morning)

• Ashley and Hanna are talking about Caleb when they witness Wilden forcing Cece into his car. Wilden gives Hanna the evil eye and Ashley asks. Hanna tells her that they think Wilden had an affair with Wilden. She also tells Ash about Cece telling them about it. Before further questioning can be made, Hanna leaves to meet Em.

Hastings

• Spencer is still in bed. Mel is home (with a new look). Spencer has been skipping school and Mel has been covering for her.

School

• Em and Hanna talk about Cece & informing Ashley. Hanna asks about Jason. He has texted her and is staying in Virginia. (Really?)
• The two, Emily & Hanna, know about Team Paileb.
• They also talk about Jaimie’s dollar bill.

Fitz Apartment

• Aria is calling is Wesley wondering if they should “talk,” when she sees that Ezra is back. He explains why he didn’t call (It’s always so easy for him to explain things and make sense). Aria starts asking questions she’s meant to ask. They have a discussion, including Malcom. They set dinner. He misses vegan takeout. They kiss. Ezria is back, full-on. (Mrrrrp. Aside from getting locked inside that crate, I am beginning to question why Aria doesn’t get into worse situations. Writers might say that hers is more emotional. Really? Really? Mrrrrp.)
• Ezra asks about Wesley. Aria conveniently tells him about the shoot, omitting the kiss. She then leaves for school.

School

• Spencer is wallowing, in Ella’s classroom. Ella knows that happened at the Academic Decathlon. Horowitz wants to suspend her but Mona said it was just a misunderstanding. (Seriously, I think Mona has BP. It’s not even funny.) Ella tries to encourage Spencer but Spence is still struggling. Spencer is set to leave when the bell rings. Ella offers her classroom as refuge for Spence and she thanks her.

Outside School

• Paige punches in directions to the Rosewood Costume Shop when Em and Hanna find her. She lies but they catch her. In consequence, join her.

School

• Aria sees Spencer but Spence tries to ditch her by hiding in the restroom. Aria follows her to the LGR and tries to talk to her outside the stall. Spencer remains quiet.

Costume Shop

• Paige asks about the QoH costume. Shana is being catty and introduces herself, Em and Hanna do the same. Shana asks why it’s so important. Paige explains that she had a run-in with the person in the costume. (I’m beginning to think it could be Shana in the costume too. Well, aside from Toby, Wren, and Ezra.)
• Em asks to head to the restroom while Hanna distracts Shana and Paige and asks where the QoH costume is.
• Em goes back to the computer and finds the purchase orders. She sends it to herself (Good job Em. Why didn’t you just take a photo? Goodness. You just gave them your email address too.).

The Brew

• Dianne Fitzgerald approaches Aria, thanking her for talking to Wes who decided to go back home. (Yea, right.) Wes also decided to finish school at Dillard. DF asks to sit and starts apologizing for her actions, explaining her reasons. Then, as expected, she starts twisting things and plants ideas into Aria’s head. (Mind games much?)

Marin

• Hanna just got off the phone with Caleb who will be looking into the credit card numbers (Ok, ranting again. That costume shop has the worst security. Computers should not be left unlocked. Second, credit cards should be encrypted. Hello!)
• Em looks worried and wonders if Toby cheated on Spencer, which is probably why Spencer is this upset, Hanna says that Toby is as loyal as a Labrador (mmhmm) and Paige is the same. She can tell by Em’s reaction that she was worried about Paige too. Em says she wasn’t worried until she sensed the tension between the two.
• Aria walks in, looking smug and tells them Ezra is back, as well as Mrs. FitzScary.

Dinner Out

• Wilden crashed Ashley’s quiet dinner, taunting her with white wine. He first appears to be someone who is looking for someone to side with him. He starts talking about teenagers and their accusations. How these could ruin his career. Ashley asks if there’s any truth to them. He looks her straight in the eye and denies it. Ashley doesn’t believe him and refuses the wine. Wilden looks defeated (but obviously is thinking of his next move).

The Brew, at night

• Spencer. Wren arrives, asking if they can talk about their road trip. He then later admits that his intentions were not purely on a “mental health” capacity. He wanted to see if he had a chance with her. Mona told Wren about the breakup (Hmmm). Spencer calms down and appears to consider it. He asks her to go get dinner.

Marin

• Aria, finally realizing the implications of the Ezra-Malcolm situation, is freaking out. Hanna calms her down (and making sense!). Then, Aria mentions Wesley and Hanna becomes suspicious. Aria doesn’t tell them about the kiss. Em tells her that she seems to be talking to everyone else except who she should be talking to.

Out and About

• Wren and Spencer are walking, reminiscing. Spencer talks about stealing her grandma’s crystal paper weight with lavender flowers (why do I think this is going to be important?). Wren says he needs to go. They kiss. Someone is watching (and I hope it’s Toby).

Fitz Apartment

• Aria arrives at Ezra with takeout in hand. She sees DF and Ezra arguing. Ezra is furious. DF brought a toy for Malcolm. Ezra tells her he’s tired of defending himself, including his relationship with Aria. He asks his mom to leave and tells her to surrender the key she had made (FitzScary indeed).
• When she leaves, Aria kisses him.

Fields

• Paige asks Em if she has any idea why Shana got in trouble for emailing confidential information (Yeah Em, very subtle). Paige keeps asking questions, if it had something to do with Mona. Em tells her that they might be against someone bigger. Someone Mona is working for. They still need to find out.
• Em asks about Shana. Paige fesses that she used to date her. They make up. But it feels like someone is watching.

Out and About

• After Wren leaves, Spencer looks around and sees the red coat and tries to follow her but loses her. (Obviously, RC was watching her. If you look at the photo stack, you’ll notice that the person has a smaller frame compared to Cece. I would guess it to be Alison/Jenna/Melissa.)

Marin

• Hanna is listening to music with headphones on when Ashley calls and leaves her voicemail.

Out and About

• Ashley tells Hanna about her Wilden run-in and wants to know more. She gets in her car. Wilden follows.

Hastings

• Melissa is checking her email when Spencer arrives. Mel notices her change in mood. Then tells Spencer, “No company is better than bad company.” (I LOVE that line.) Melissa proceeds to tell her that she bought Wren “that” cologne. (Ok another rant, colognes don’t easily transfer. What is she, a vampire??? She must’ve seen them.)

Fitz Apartment

• Ezra is cleaning up, and throws out the gift his mom left for Malcolm. They end up talking about Malcolm.
• It’s movie night. While Aria makes popcorn, Ezra gets a call from Maggie, whose condo where she lives at is owned by DF. And, DF decided to sell it. She appears to have panicked. (Seriously? Then go find another apartment.)

Out and About

• Ashley is pulled over. Yes, by Wilden. Who accuses her of DUI. (Wilden, seriously? You are such a _____. )He asks Ashley to step out, and she eventually obliges.

Hastings

• Spencer sets the steam shower and gets in the stall. From her room, hoodie walks by.

Out and About

• Wilden threatens Ashley because she wants Hanna to shut up. He is bottled out.
• Ashley goes back to her car. Wilden refuses to get out of the way. Ashley runs him over.

Cece’s

• Cece is packing when Em arrives (Oh, hello red coat. How many of them are you?) Cece confronts Em for not keeping her secret. Em asks why she lied. Cece tries to avoid the topic but Em pushes her. She tells Em that she thinks Wilden got Ali pregnant and killed her. Em tells Cece that Jason told her that he saw her at their place the night Ali disappeared.
• Cece tells Em that Ali was talking about videos. Videos everyone wanted. Especially Melissa. Cece went to talk to Ali. Next day, she was missing.
• Em asked who took the boat photo. It was Melissa.

Hastings

• Here we go. Spencer is in the stall when the control panel fails. She tries to lower the temp to no avail. She tries to leave and notices that she is locked in. (Digital steam showers have auto shut-off :-/) She yells for help from Melissa who is nowhere to be found. (Melissa Toby?)
• Spencer finds a message on the mirror.
• Almost giving up hope, she falters. Aria runs up and helps her.

Marin

• Ashley is in her kitchen, zoned out. Hanna asks what’s wrong and she says that she might have killed Wilden. (Unfortunately, I feel sorry for the person who drove versus the one who was run-over.)

Hastings

• Aria says thank God she got Spencer’s text. (Text? What text? From here? Who sent the text? Did Toby send the text? Did he feel sorry for Spencer?)
• Spencer says it was revenge, for hooking up with Wren. She asks Aria to call the liars and ask them to come over. She’s ready to talk. She knows who Mona is working with.

Out and About

• Hanna and Ashley drive to the scene. (Please check the video in the police car!!! Argh.)
• Wilden is nowehere to be found.

A’s Antics

• Gloved hand puts a record on and proceeds to chop flowers for a sympathy wreath.

My Thoughts

• Look at the photos from A’s Lair.  The bottom-most floor now contains a dining table with two chairs exposed.
• Cece’s red coat display seems like a red herring.
• Other thoughts inline.
• Check photo stack.
• The number one thing that made me think about the episode is that in most scenes, they were all being watched. By a bigger team.
