Season 3, Episode 18 Dead to Me

#PrettyLittleLiars Recap:

The Brew

• The liars are talking about Ezra. Aria has not heard back from Ezra.
• Spencer is still acting strangely and the liars are beginning to notice. She goes to the counter to get a refill and her coffee reheated.
• They start talking about Wilden, reading the notebook, and knowing what they know. Emily mentions the Cape May photo of Wilden she saw at the station. She plans to head back and take a snapshot of it.
• At the counter, Spencer gets a text from the PI that he has some information.
• Jason arrives and tells Spencer and the rest of the liars about Ali’s remains. Her remains will be buried at the mausoleum instead of a typical grave. The memorial will be private, but Jason has arranged some private time for the liars. He also mentions that the items they placed in her coffin are still missing (urrr, because some of the liars have their stuff back). Jason says that the cops think that if they find the items, they will find the creeps who did this. (And, the blame game begins. I smell a rat. They are going to get blamed again.) Spencer starts having a fit about Ali’s memorial.

School

• Aria and Hanna discuss the objects with them. Hanna wants to return them. Aria says that it feels like they are being maneuvered into doing something that will get them into more trouble. Like last time. (Like all the time.) Aria tells Hanna she is going to Ezra’s apartment. Hanna teases her.
• Spencer and Mona have a conversation about the decathlon. Mona infuriates her by mentioning Toby.
• Caleb is texting. Hanna finds him. He tells her that he’s been messaging to his mom about his aunt who’s moving to Brisbane. They’re moving her things and there might be stuff from Caleb’s dad that he might want. Hanna asks if he wants to go and check. Caleb says he is not going. Hanna tries to convince him to go but he refuses to listen.

Fitz Apartment

• Aria is staring at the ceiling, wallowing, when Wesley arrives. Both of them are surprised to see each other there. Wes claims that he could use the place while he was gone. We know that Ezra left to see Maggie and Malcolm.
• Wes asks if it’ll be a problem if he stayed. Aria says no, Ezra invited him. Wes notices the dent on the pillow and tells her that she should still stop by.

Alley Way

• The PI, Miles Corwin, met up with Spencer and starts talking to her about hydrangeas. Toby purchased them by credit card but he later on (3 days later) switched to cash. Then, they talk about the A-Key.
• Corwin says that if Spencer wants to know a specific address, he wants more money. Although, he did try to discourage her from spending more on the investigation. He compares Toby to criminals. Criminals don’t buy hydrangeas.

Police Station

• Emily visits city hall and runs into Pam, who only had corndogs for lunch. Em heads for the board, in search for Wilden’s photo. Which is now missing. Pam finds a postcard and Em tells her it’s hers.
• Em looks at the postcard while waiting for her mom to clock out.
• It states, “ArrêTe de creuser! LA police sAiT dejA que c’esT Toi qui esT cApAble de meurTre!” Notice how all the As and Ts are capped. (That handwriting is awfully familiar. Again.)
• Emily is worried.

Hastings

• Em heads over to Spencer. She tells her that the photo of Wilden is missing. She notices the boxes that contain the Spoby items. Spencer is acting angry but Em calms her down.
• Em shows Spencer the postcard. They argue about As antics.
• Spencer translates it. “Stop digging! The police already know it’s you who’s capable of murder!”
• Spencer tries to explain that the police know that Emily is not to blame.
• Em tells Spencer that she’s there for her. She explains about Paige, as seen by Hanna. Paige was just trying to find out who bought the Queen of Hearts costume. Paige hasn’t found out yet. Em says that sometimes things appear bad, when they are not. They just need an explanation. Spencer, calmly, asks, “What if the explanation is even worse?” (Reference to last week’s episode title)

Montgomery

• Hanna asks Aria about Wesley.
• Hanna says that she is making Caleb dinner in exchange for visiting his aunt’s place.
• Hanna asks Aria about the earrings. Aria isn’t ready to turn them over.

Dr. Sully

• Emily is visiting with Dr. Sullivan. New couch, mostly rentals. She doesn’t start seeing people officially next week.
• They start talking about Mona. And not talking. Then, about Nate. Sully reminds her that she was defending herself. Emily explains that she is there to talk about the fact that she killed someone—regardless of reason. She is trying to make peace with it all. Sully recommends hypnotherapy, to reframe the memories that we have.

Hastings

• Spencer takes her Spoby box and sorts through its contents. She finds a photo, then a card, and starts crying.
• She takes her phone and calls Corwin. $500 more to keep looking.

Caleb’s Aunt’s

• Jamie Doyle, Caleb’s “UNCLE” helps them attend to the stuff left for them to sort through. Jamie tries to make conversation. Caleb is being rude. Jamie appears hesitant but tries to make conversation.
• Caleb says that his Uncle took him to a few Philly’s games.

Downtown

• Jason runs into Spencer by the ATM machine and notices it. (Well, that was uncalled for. Would you approach your friend or family and comment about the money they are taking out of their account?)
• Jason tries to talk to her about Ali’s memorial. They end up arguing, but Spencer refuses to fight.

Caleb’s Aunt’s

• Hanna is trying to help sort through. As Caleb walks to the other side of the room, Jamie tries to talk to Hanna about Caleb. She asks about Caleb’s dad. Hanna asks if Jamie knew Caleb’s mom and he hesitates (his reaction…so full of regret…hmmm…I think he’s the dad).

Dr. Sully

• Hypnotherapy begins. Dr. Sully starts directing her towards That Night.

Fitz Apartment

• Wesley is typing, using Ezra’s trusty vintage typewriter.
• Aria arrives. Asks about Ezra. They haven’t heard from him.
• Ring, ring. Wesley hesitantly answers the phone. No answer. He looks worried.
• They go out for food.

Dr. Sully

• Flashback. Emily is walking towards Ali’s backyard. Ali turns around as Emily approaches. Ali starts to panic as Emily draws nearer with the shovel. The murder weapon. Ali stumbles backward and Emily raises the shovel and hits Ali.
• Emily wakes up from hypnosis, breathing heavily. She asks Sully what happened. Sully says she broke off the hypnosis. Emily walks out.

Caleb’s Aunt’s

• Caleb takes the stuff he collected to the car and says goodbye to his Uncle.
• Hanna thanks Jamie, and he tries to invite them to go get food but Hanna says that Caleb wants to get going.
• Jamie hands Hanna a photo he claims to have found at the bottom of the dresser. (Hmmm, same ring)
• It’s a photo of Caleb when he was six months old. Jamie wants Hanna to hold on to it for him until Caleb is ready to see it. Caleb calls for Hanna and they leave. Jamie gives Hanna fatherly advice.

Fields

• Em calls Hanna. Voicemail. She searches for the postcard.
• Flashback: Emily is studying as Ali is sorting through postcards. One of the postcards match the one Emily got. Ali is talking to Emily about going on a trip with her to Paris. (Ali keeps teasing Emily. That was really mean. She makes her think she’s interested when she’s just playing games with her.)
• Pam enters Em’s room. Em is feeling troubled. Pam comforts her.

Alley Way

• Corwin and Spencer meet again. He hands her the A-Key and information: a small building right by Mayflower Hill, in exchange for more cash. Corwin asks her what she hopes to see behind the door.
• She says that if she opens the door and it’s full of the things that she thinks it is, that means that there’s hope. It means that he loved/loves her. And that she wasn’t wrong about them. And if it’s not, it’s time to let him go.

Downtown

• Wes and Aria step out of the Pizza place with a box to share. A man calls after Wesley and talks about his mom “fixing the board” but he can’t buy him off. Wes slams the Pizza at him and grabs Aria’s hand and runs.
• Around the corner, Aria asks who that was. Wes tells her that that was his physics teacher’s husband. She replies with, “What kind of school do you go to?” (Mrrrp, the kind that you go to.)

Fitz Apartment

• Aria asks about the man. Wes says that Ezra taught him how to drive, but not how to run away. He starts talking about the time when Ezra left. We wanted to go with him but Ezra refused to take him.
• Aria reminds him about the man—and Wes tells her about doing the one thing that guaranteed an academic suspension and an irate husband. Which is why he’s hiding at Ezra’s place. (Aria says he “hit on” his physics teacher. LOL.)
• Wes explains that before Ezra left, his mom controlled them. Wes explains that when Ezra met Aria, he knew what he wanted and that’s what guided Ezra. It’s the main reason why Dianne hates her. Because she’s unexpected.

Marin

• Caleb takes his box to Hanna’s place. They argue about his attitude towards all this. And how he was “shipped off”. Hanna decides not to wait and shows him the photo. He asks where she got it. Caleb asks where it was found. Hanna explains the bent edges. She thinks Jamie took it from his wallet. Hanna suspects that Jamie is Caleb’s dad. Caleb seems angrier.

Dr. Sully

• Dr. Sullivan heads out of her office and finds creepy Mona holding an orchid, waiting for her. She thanks Sully saying that she has helped her and that she is getting better each day. She peers into the office and recommends placing the orchid by the window.
• Dr. Sully decides to take the plant with her. (Good thing) Sully thanks her and Mona says that she couldn’t really repay her for what she did. (Sounds like a threat to me.)

A Apartment

• Spencer inserts the key and enters the room. It’s empty.

Mausoleum

• Jason, Hanna, Aria, and Emily are waiting for Spencer. Jason takes them to Ali’s burial vault. Hanna is creeped-out.  Spencer barges in and tells Jason about Ali’s pregnancy. She’s angry and is taking it out on everyone else. She says that Wilden is the father. Jason walks out.
• Emily tells them that Spencer is hurting and just wants them all to hurt just as bad. They all leave.
• Aria, Hanna, and Emily know there’s something wrong with Spencer.
• Emily has a sudden flash of memory. She remembers That Night and says that she has been mixing up the nightmares. She remembers seeing the girl in the red coat. (So, there were two people, at the graveyard, who she saw that night?). Emily figures that she didn’t hurt Ali. Hanna asks if they think that it was Alison. Aria thought it ridiculous. Emily says she doesn’t know, all she knows is that she’s a woman, blonde, and wearing a red coat. And, she’s the one in charge.
• Inside, Spencer finds Toby’s Mom’s burial vault. She takes out the A-Key and scratches the marble with his name.

A’s Antics

• At the liquor store, we see a gloved figure ordering a bottle of bourbon/whiskey and reaching for a driver’s license.
